Swedish automaker Volvo is gearing up to launch a new electric SUV for 2026, positioned as a more advanced and longer‑range alternative to its existing mid‑size models. Known internally as the 2026 Volvo EX60, this EV is being touted as a potential solution to “range anxiety” thanks to its impressive claimed driving distance.
Although Volvo has yet to fully unveil the vehicle, the company has already confirmed a projected 810 km range on a single charge- a figure that would place the EX60 among the class leaders. On real‑world roads, that could mean distances comparable to long Australian drives such as Melbourne to Adelaide.
In addition to its long range, Volvo says the EX60 supports extremely fast charging. Using a 400 kW fast charger, the battery could gain around 340 km of range in just 10 minutes, according to the brand.
Volvo claims this model will outperform all previous fully electric vehicles it has produced, both in efficiency and charging speed. Anders Bell, Volvo’s Chief Technology Officer, has described the EX60 as a vehicle designed to redefine expectations around EV range and usability.
The EX60 will be built on Volvo’s latest EV platform, known as SPA3, andwill use advanced manufacturing techniques, such as mega casting, where large sections of the body are produced in fewer parts to improve structural rigidity.
A full public reveal of the Volvo EX60 is expected soon, with the company planning an official presentation later this month.
