Tesla Reveals FSD Subscriber Numbers Surpassing One Million

Tesla has publicly released, for the first time, the total number of users paying for its Full Self‑Driving software, showing that more than 1 million people worldwide are currently subscribed or have paid for access to the feature.

The company disclosed this figure in its fourth‑quarter 2025 earnings report, revealing that around 1.1 million active FSD subscriptions or purchases were recorded by the end of the year. That represents substantial growth compared with previous reporting periods- up from around 800,000 in late 2024.

Tesla’s total includes both customers who pay monthly subscription fees and those who bought the FSD package outright in earlier years, with upfront purchasers accounting for roughly 70 % of the total according to company figures shared during the earnings call.

Despite the milestone, the adoption rate remains modest relative to Tesla’s overall vehicle deliveries. With millions of Teslas on the road, roughly 12 % of the cumulative fleet holds an active FSD subscription or paid‑in‑full access.

Tesla’s FSD system remains a supervised driver‑assistance technology that still requires the driver’s attention and hands on the wheel, rather than a fully autonomous solution. The company has recently shifted away from selling FSD as a one‑time purchase and is moving toward a subscription‑only model, where access is provided on a recurring monthly basis.

This strategic shift comes as part of a broader push to grow recurring software revenue and advance Tesla’s longer‑term autonomy goals. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has tied ambitious subscription targets- including reaching 10 million active FSD users- to long‑term performance incentives.

The decision to publicly share FSD adoption data marks a notable change for Tesla, which previously did not disclose detailed subscription figures.
