New Models, Lower Prices, More Chargers: The EV Market Powers Up

2025 is well and truly on its way, and the EV market in Australia is going strong, whether you look at the number of car models available, the growth in fast chargers, incentives to buy an EV or the number of new car deals on offer.

This sets the stage for what's to come in the coming months, making it one of the most exciting times in the car industry in recent decades.

Starting with the models, there have been a huge amount of models which have sparked curiosity, especially at some of the prices that they are now launching at.

They started off with the BYD range, when the fastest-growing car company dropped a bombshell on EV prices with new entry-level variants starting under $30,000.

This was part of the “Essentials” range with new variants of the 5-star ANCAP rated Dolphin, now starting at $29,990 before on-roads.

At the same time, the company launched the Atto 3 Essential, which, for the first time, brought the price of the Atto 3 under $40,000, with prices starting at $39,990 before on-roads. This was a big move because it set a new benchmark for new models and pricing.

Following that announcement, several popular models were launched with pricing hovering around the $40,000, making it a very competitive end of the market.

This included the 5-star ANCAP safety-rated SUV, the Geely EX5, which came with aggressive pricing for the brand’s first Australian EV, starting at $40,990 before on-roads.

That was followed up by the pricing of the MG’s new electric SUV, the MGS5 EV, with prices starting at just over $40,000 drive away, further adding to the competition.

All these models have exceptional technology, safety and most importantly, great range to help with range anxiety.

Many of these models are likely to be at the upcoming Melbourne International EV Autoshow 2025 which goes from 26 - 29 June 2025 at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Speaking of range anxiety, the number of fast charging sites continues to grow, with the latest data from carloop, an EV data company, showing over 1,300 fast charging sites with thousands of charging bays across the country.

This is helping make road trips and long-distance EV driving much easier across many states and territories.

On top of that, there are plenty of other pole-mounted charging stations going up in our inner cities to help support EV owners in those parts of the country.

To help get behind the wheel of some of these new EVs, there are also several deals helping owners save thousands of dollars.

In recent weeks, Jeep slashed more than $15,000 from the price of the Avenger electric SUV, to help move more stock.

On top of that, Deepal, a brand from Chinese automotive giant, Changan, also cut over $8,000 off the driveaway price of the tech-packed S07 electric SUV.

This car also recently received a 5-star ANCAP safety rating, making it one of the safest on the market.

With so much happening, it’s a very exciting time to see all things EVs. Where else than at the upcoming Melbourne International EV Autoshow 2025. For more information, check out the event website.
