Chinese automaker BYD has introduced its latest electric vehicle, the 2026 Song Ultra EV, featuring groundbreaking rapid charging technology. The mid-size electric SUV is equipped with BYD’s second-generation lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade battery, which allows the vehicle to charge from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes, a capability that significantly shortens downtime compared to most current EVs.
The Song Ultra is offered in four trim levels, with two different electric motor and battery setups. The entry-level model features a rear-mounted motor producing 240kW of power and 305Nm of torque, powered by a 68.4kWh battery pack. Higher trims come with additional performance enhancements and larger battery capacities, catering to drivers seeking both range and speed.
BYD positions the Song Ultra as a strong competitor to models like the Kia EV5, XPeng G6, and Tesla Model Y, offering advanced technology, fast charging, and a practical SUV form factor. The vehicle’s flash-charging capability is designed to alleviate one of the main barriers to EV adoption, making it more appealing for daily use and long-distance travel.
With its combination of cutting-edge battery technology, multiple powertrain options, and rapid charging, the 2026 Song Ultra EV demonstrates BYD’s continued push to expand its presence in the global EV market while addressing consumer concerns about convenience and charging infrastructure.
